The centerpiece for your weekend family fun – Serious fun, people. Serious, serious fun – is the Big Sky State Games, whether you’re participating or not!
It all begins on Friday, July 14 with the Big Sky State Games Opening Ceremonies – a variety of fun and festivities. It all begins at 5:30pm with the Pre-Game Festival, featuring interactive booths, climbing wall, obstacle course, food trucks, music, and souvenirs. At 6:15pm the first wave of the 4th Annual Soaked Fun Run/Walk begins in and around Pioneer Park. (4-6p.m. Soaked Check-in and Last minute Registration – SE corner Pioneer Park near tennis courts). This fun run includes Billings Fire Department fire hoses, sprinklers, foam machine, slip ‘n’ slides, and loads of water! Next is the evening’s main event: The Parade of Athletes at 7:30pm, with all 27 sports of the Games represented and recognized. The evening’s program also includes: State Games Hot Money Give Away of 20 $100 bills · Aerial Assaults Performance · Torch Lighting by World Record Holder Triple Jumper Willie Banks · the Montana Mile (Montana’s fastest male and female milers). Admission is $5 and free to children 6 and under. Athletes are admitted with their Opening Ceremonies ticket.
On Saturday, July 15, the day kicks off with the 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast, hosted by the Billings Tennis Association and Big Sky State Games at Daylis Stadium entrance, closest to the tennis courts, from 7-10:30am. $5 per plate, $15 for family of four. Includes coffee, juice, a short stack and sausage. All proceeds go to support the growth of tennis in Eastern Montana, including the maintenance of public tennis courts, the development of adult and youth programs, and scholarships. If you want to catch some excellent sports action throughout the weekend, cruise through Big Sky State Games Facebook page and/or their website to see what’s happening, when. The cherry on top of Saturday is The Big Sky State Games Outdoor Movie Night in the Park, sponsored by Firefly Outdoor Movie Company, starting approximately at dusk. This event is free! The featured movie is Finding Dory. Get there early, as live music starts at 6pm and there will be food trucks, face painting, and a raffle for a Yeti cooler to benefit Billings Parks & Recreation’s Scholarship Fund.
