5 things to know about (and do) in Billings this weekend

This weekend preview for February 17-19, 2017 is sponsored by RiverStone Health

We’ve made it through the official, actual day of Valentine’s Day, though remnants are still lingering this weekend around Billings. We’ll get there, but in the meantime, there are also books and movies to round out your weekend of family fun!

Up close with local authors…

First, on Friday evening, February 17 from 5:30-7pm, you’ll have a chance to Meet the Author at This House of Books (224 North Broadway). Tim Lehman, a Professor of History and Political Science at Rocky Mountain College and author of Bloodshed at Little Bighorn: Sitting Bull, Custer, and the Destinies of Nations, will be signing copies of his book, which has recently been approved for use in School District 2 as part of Indian Education for All.

Then on Saturday, February 18 at 11am, the kids will love having the chance to have Saturday Story Time with the authors at Billings Public Library in the Story Tower. Local authors Violet Birdinground, Sabrena Half, and Bessie Crooked Arm talk about how they started their own publishing company, and reading from books in the Lily Good Path series. These stories are imaginative, whimsical, and written to provide children an American Indian perspective and introduce them to tribal storytelling traditions. Books will be available for purchase.

Family movie night, out and about AND free…

On Saturday evening, the Firefly Winter Movie Series presents Finding Dory at Medicine Crow Middle School Gym. The movie begins at 6:30pm, doors open at 6pm.

Whether you’ve seen Finding Dory or not (if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?!), then this is the evening for you! Firefly’s Winter Movie Series is dwindling down to its final showings (does that mean winter is also dwindling? If only…). These free movie nights are held at different schools in the district, and this viewing is the second to last in the series. On your end, you simply need to bring any blankets or chairs to comfortably take in the gloriousness of this sweet sequel. If you needed any further incentive – besides the whole aforementioned free-ness of the evening – let me just tell you how I felt coming out of the theater this summer: Finding Dory was everything I didn’t know I still needed after the awesomeness that was Finding Nemo…*sigh* Such magic, much feels. It’s must-watch, it really is. Just keep swimming!

When Valentine’s Day lingers…

When you arrive…fill out paperwork, wait your turn, and have the choice of…
