This weekend preview for August 28-30, 2015 is brought to you by RiverStone Health
It’s back to school week here in Billings and it can be some rough stuff getting back into the groove of a genuinely scheduled life. We want to support you in your need to kick back and have some family fun – ease your way back into all of this structure, we say! And so, here’s a look at what Billings has going on around town this last weekend in August…
Parents if you happen to have some free time on your hands now that the kiddos are back in school, then you might pop by the Western Heritage Center on Friday, August 28 at 10am for Hoof it with a Historian, Secrets & Scandals: Calamities along the Tracks. Relatively new to the lineup, this walking tour is proving to be a fascinating one, shares Lisa Olmsted, WHC Business Manager. Expect the sharing of historic photos of buildings/places along the way, offering the unique experience of looking at a historic photo and site simultaneously. As you walk down Minnesota and Montana Avenues for this tour, you’ll learn about some fascinating characters that walked those same streets. Calamity Jane, Chief Plenty Coups, and President Roosevelt, just to name a few!
Later that evening, you’ll want to consider taking in the final act in this summer’s free Movies in the Park series with a showing of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy at Pioneer Park on Friday, August 28, show starts at dusk. Admission is free, concessions are available; simply bring your blankets, chairs, and settle in for a movie under the stars!
This weekend in Billings there’s also the major happening of Montana Fashion Week, back for its second year on Friday and Saturday, August 28-29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. This two day event provides designers with an international platform to showcase their collections to thousands of industry insiders from around the world. There will be plenty to see and do over this two day fashion extravaganza, get your tickets here, or head over to www.montanafashionweek.com for more information.
On Saturday, August 29, make your way to Downtown Billings for the Yellowstone Valley Farmers’ Market, 8am-12pm, to snag all kinds of deliciousness to fill those lunch boxes with and to round out your dinner menu. While you’re downtown make your way to the Pop-Up Art Market from 10am-3pm at Crooked Line Studio. Peruse the original works of Billings’ artists and craftspeople, displaying art, photography, pottery, jewelry, and more. Who knows what unique gifts and treasures you might discover!
Finally, on Sunday, August 30, you’ll most definitely want to stop by ZooMontana to participate in the I Am Billings 2015 photo, scheduled to be taken at 2pm. Not In Our Town has partnered with ZooMontana, Westpark Village Senior Living, and other organizations to provide free entrance to the zoo from 1-4pm for those wanting to be in the I AM BILLINGS photo. Come out for this family-friendly (free) event and embrace your part in this community – showing other communities across the nation how Billings can join together.
