This weekend preview is brought to you by RiverStone Health
Heading into our final weekend of July and our first weekend of August, can we all just take a moment and ruminate over the crazy speediness in which this summer has gone by? Never mind that July has apparently been trying to prep us for fall with temperatures bouncing all over the place and reports of snowfall here and there…But I digress. Let’s talk this weekend, July 31-August 2, 2015, and what’s happening in and around Billings that you won’t want to miss!
From family fun to date night opportunities we’ve got three solid options for your Friday festivities, July 31…Let the kids unleash their inner artist with Kids Night Out at In Good Glazes, 6-8pm, $25 open canvas painting. If you’re more in the mood to kick back and relax under the stars, then head out to Optimist Park for a free viewing of the beloved animated flick, Up, part of the Billings Kiwanis summer Movies in the Park series. Movie starts at dusk and there are concessions. Finally, for the grown ups, as of July 28, Yellowstone Art Museum was announcing spots still available for Paint ‘n’ Sip with Louis Habeck, 7-9pm.
As we turn the calendar page to August, we’ve discovered a plethora of daytime adventures to partake in this Saturday, August 1. (And don’t think we’ve forgotten a key piece of this weekend – hang tight for weekend-long events coming your way). But back to the daytime delights…If you care to make your way to Downtown Billings you’ll discover all kinds of fresh goodness at the Farmers’ Market, 8am-12pm as well as the Minnesota Avenue Open Air Market from 9am-3pm. Mosey over to North 27th Street and you’ll discover that it’s Dollar Day at the YAM. You can follow all of that up with Billings Public Library’s Summer Block Party at 11am-2pm, which you can read more about here. If you’re looking for ways to be active while making a difference, then we direct your attention to American Cancer Society’s Climb to Conquer Cancer (8:30am-12pm) at Red Lodge Mountain Resort or the 4th Annual World Breastfeeding Week Walk & Celebration at Pioneer Park, 10am-12pm, which you can learn more about here.
As promised, here’s a peek into those weekend-long events that will have Billings flying high and moving and grooving. We can only be talking about the Big Sky International Balloon Rendezvous (July 31-Aug 2) and the always highly anticipated Magic City Blues Festival (July 30-Aug 2)! The Magic City Blues Festival, which takes place over four days and three different sites offers concerts for all-ages on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday is for the over 18 crowd. Thursday the festival will be at St. John’s (3940 Rimrock Road), Friday at Montana Avenue (2500 Montana Avenue), and Saturday and Sunday at South Park. For more information and the festival’s line-up and schedule, check out www.magiccityblues.com. Turning our sights to the skies, the Big Sky International Balloon Rendezvous is a free family event held at Amend Park (weather permitting). Come out and watch the balloons inflate in the morning, July 31-August 2, and get a glow on August 1 at dusk! For up to date info, be sure to check out their Facebook page.
